The Art of Julie Abowitt
Food Series - Digital Prints

"Apples and Blood Oranges" "Beets and Berries"
"Eggplants 1" "Oranges Plaid"

  • These digital prints are
entirely created on a Macintosh computer, using scanning, hand drawing with a wireless pen and Waacom tablet, various Photoshop filters and several other computer techniques.

Creating art on the computer is another tool with the benefit of nearly unlimited options. For every choice made, there are hundreds of alternate choices. That makes each image the result of much experimentation. For example, rather than having the choice of ten tubes of blue paint, the digital palette has thousands of blue hues; then you adjust by adding other colors,
just as you do with paints, but each of those colors has thousands of variations. It's challenging and fun!

  • I mat all my digital prints in archival mats to carefully preserve them.

  • Prints for 11x14 and 16x20 frames are giclée prints, the highest quality ink jet prints used by professional artists. I was recently advised by my printer that the inks used for giclée prints cost thousands of dollars a gallon and that they are archival and should last for decades when properly framed and hung out of UV light.

  • These images appear in the correct colors on a Mac computer and may appear much darker on a PC, depending upon the monitor settings.
